The music for the film Shaft gave Isaac Hayes his breakthrough. The soundtrack won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Film Score and a Grammy for Best Original Film Score and Best Instrumental Arrangement in 1972. The album was so successful that it went platinum, making Isaac Hayes the first African American artist ever to receive it. Meanwhile it has achieved cult status and everyone knows the music to it.
