Just under a year after the soul legend's death in 2014, "Save The Children" was reissued, a classic that shows just how much Womack influenced the development of funk and soul. Because Womack outlived all the greats of the soul era, he liked to call himself "The last Soul Survivor". In a career spanning over 50 years, he recorded hits such as "Across 110th Street" and "If You Think You're Lonely Now". The Rolling Stones scored their first number 1 hit with a cover of Womack's "It's All Over Now". On "Save The Children", first released in 1989, Womack combines 60s soul with pop and is also influenced by 80s hip hop. A great album by a great artist!
