Habibi Funk began re-releasing music from the Middle East and North Africa in 2015. With great effort: they search for the music, the artists, the families, the stories behind it. They prepare everything beautifully, including detailed liner notes and great original pictures of the artists. The musicians or their families receive 50% of the royalties. In an interview, the makers behind Habibi Funk say: "If you are a European or Western label and deal with the music of non-European artists, you naturally have a special responsibility to ensure that you do not reproduce historical patterns of economic exploitation."
